GCSE Results Day 2026 falls on Thursday 20 August, with most schools releasing results from around 8am. For students and parents across Oldham, Manchester, Rochdale and Hyde, it’s one of the biggest days of the school calendar – and whatever the results say, there are clear next steps to take.
On the Day
Most schools ask students to collect results in person, though many now also make them available through a school portal or app. If you can’t collect them yourself, check with your school about how someone else can collect on your behalf, or whether results can be emailed or accessed online.
If the Grades Are What You Hoped For
Congratulations! The next step is usually confirming your place at sixth form or college. Enrolment days are typically held in the days immediately following results day, so make sure you know your school or college’s enrolment date and bring your results with you.
If the Grades Aren’t What You Expected
Try not to panic – there are more options than most students realise:
- Talk to your school first. Teachers and exam officers are usually on hand on results day itself to talk through options.
- Resits. English and maths GCSEs can be resat, and many colleges offer resit courses alongside other qualifications.
- Remarks and reviews. If a result looks surprising given your mock exams and coursework, your school can request a review of marking.
- Alternative routes. BTECs, vocational courses and apprenticeships can all lead to the same destinations as traditional A-levels, sometimes with a better fit for how you learn.
